RADIO TO AID POLICE
NEW FACILITY I\N> SYDNEY. SYDNEY, January 4. The Government. is calling for tenders for the erection of' a wireless broadcasting station for the Police Department. This is expected to cost about £l4oo', but the Department will save the hundreds a year at present paid for the broadcasting of its messages through. Pennant Hills. The Chief Secretary (Mr " Chaffey) has also approvedof the purchase of 'six additional side-car outfits for the police in the metropolitan area. In emphasising the value of fast transport .and technical equipment, Mr Chaffey mentioned to-day that the purchase of a fast wireless patrol car a few 'months ago had enabled the police to' “clean üb” burglars who were operating ju the northern suburbs. This, car, which was worth about £BOO, waia offered to the police by a public-spirited citizen and. purchased for £IBO. Before the new broadc-asling station is erected arrangements will have to be made with the Postmaster-General’s Department- with regard to the wavelength. The station will probably be at lledfern. ‘
