CORRESPONDENCE

BLACK HAND ORCHESTRA.

(To the Editor.)

iSix*,—-With regard to a disclaimer which appeared in your columns on Friday last, I -wish to .state that the Black Hand Orchestra did not run a dance with the id € a of running opposition to the Kokatahi Gun Club’s Ball, nor did they .run it to be of any benefit to themselves, but to help the Hokitika Cricket Club along. The Orchestra hav@ always been to the front to help any good cause and in very many cases have played free of charge, and at considerable expense to themselves. I think it is rather unfair for anyone to think that w, e would lower ourselves, to show any petty spite to thg Kokatahi Gun Club or any entertainment committee by deliberately running in opposition. to them.

I would just like to s a y here, .for the benefit of those persons responsible for any that if they cast their memory back a little way, they will find that an organisation in Kokatahi he’d pi function in that place on the ■same date as w.e held one in Hokitika in aid of a good purpose, and although our advertisement appeared in the “Guardian” fully three -.veeps before theirs, and they were acquainted of the fact, they still carried on, but ire bore them no malice.

Now, before I conclude I wish to say that though it has been rumoured that the Black Hand Orchestra has broken, they will find them a bigger, brighter and better orchestra than ever ibis season and given ,a fair deal, will always be th e re to assist in any good ffiause. Trusting that this will remove any misapprehension and thanking you for your valuable space, I am 1 etc., W. BERNHARD, Drummer, Black Hand Orchestra. Ruatapu, January 24th, 1953.
