HOMESTEAD BURNT

DUNEDIN, January 14
The home's,tead ’.at “Cook Rock” Est,ate } near "Chryistal’s B'Sach, G'onledi district, near /Milton, was completely destroyed by fire shortly after 7 p.m. yesterday. Th e estate is owned by Mr W. G.- Bowron, of Christchurch, and is managed by Mr G. W. Sta nisi and (Mr Bowron’s eon-in-law). Mr Stauisland had, it is, seated,' lighted a kerosene stove and' placed a kettle thereon in preparation for tea. He then proceeded about hie ordinary farm duties > and, whilst engaged milking the cows, he smoke imuinf cent dwelling. .He rlished towards the building, but the flames--had spread so quickly that ho was unable to save anything except a suit "of clothing from the' front bedroom. Within half an hour there remained only smouldering ruin?.
It is not known whether there was any insurance on the building or contents. Airs Stauisland and members of the family are at present spending their holidays at Christchurch.
