FRENCH WAGE CUTS
PUBLIC ANTAGONISM SHOWN. (United Press Association -By tlectrii Telegraph— Copyright.) PARIS, Jan. 16. The latest complication in the financial situation is that two great syndicates, representing the civil service and the postal workers, have broken off their negotiations with the Government on the budget proposals. 'M. Boncour, the Prime Minister, had hoped to placate these syndicates by discussing the Government’s proposals with them before they were submitted to Parliament. Instead, he has antagonised a largo body of the public, which resents the trimming of the budget proposals in order to secure the support of particular political groups. BIG FRENCH LOTTERY. PARIS, January 14. The Budget! is causing M. Clieron, Minister of Finance, to be overwhelmed with protests ancl appeals characteristic of the cupidity of the French mind, which'--is reflected in Deputy Taittinger’s Bill to cover the deficit by means of a lottery, from which a daily prize of 1,060,000 francs would be paid. The yearly revenue is anticipated to amount to 12,000,000,'OOO francs.
