MT. COOK CLIMBED

TWO ASCENTS MADE LAST WEEK

TIMA’RU, January 16,

Th e second successful ascent of Mt. Cook, 12,349 feet in height this season was accomplished last Week by two parties. One comprised Guide V. Williams and Mr A, Hayes j of Hakatarame.ii. The other comprised A. Dewar (South Westland), F. Chapman (Tiniaru) and M. McClymonr (Dunedin) . Th e actual glacial conditions were good, but the vocks were plastered with ice, the parties spending a considerable time in dodging showers of ice. Tile trip over the rocks, which usually is accomplished in an hour, took five hours. The whoI e trip tool; 21 hours. The previous .ascent this season was made by Miss Irvine of South Canterbury and .Guide M. Bowie, who had good conditions thrnoghout. Dewar and IMcClymont have also made other good climbs.
