SERIOUSLY BURNT

IN HOUSE FIRE.

PALMERSTON NORTH, Jan. 16

Serious Inirns on the body were sustained by George Tremaine, 45, a night watchman, in a fire which occurred at his small house, Florence Avenue, shortly before one this morning. Tremaine stated he had left a candle burning and! on returning to the house found it had fallen among some papers, setting these alight. In liis attempt to extinguish the blaze, he slipped and fell into the flames sustaining numerous burtis, but was able to summon the Brigade, which confined tlie damage to- the room where tlie outbreak occurred.

Tremaine wa s taken to the hospital, and liis condition is fairly serious.
