Prices - of live stock were generally rather lower to-day at the Addington sale. : 1 ;

Only two hundred and thirty head of beef were yarded. The quality was mediocre.. Competition was easier.. It was a very dull market- in spite of the short supply. Best. heavy. , bullocks ■gold to £9 17s 6d, prime £7 10s to £8 10s, medium £5 to,, £5 15s, light from £4. Extra heavy heifers sold to £7 ■l7s 6d, prime £5 10s tq £6 10s, medium from £3'7s 6d.' Best cows sold to £7.7s 6d,, heavy cows.£4 5s to £5 ss, • medium £3 to-£4, light from 30s. There was a full yarding of fat lambs, including many good drafts. The butchers. were not operating . as freely as at the ’Xmas'market. Competition was‘stead at a value a shad© easier than the previous sale.' Best heavy lambs sold to 14s 7d, good prime 12s Gd to 18s 9d, medium. 10s &d to 12s 3d, light from 9s 6d. There was a medium yarding' of fat sheep. The butchers were purchasing only very .limited! . quantities, - thus creating a fall in values all round, light grades suffering principally. The store sheep l comprised practically only a few lines of whethers from North Canterbury to Blenheim. The first line of rape lambs offered this season Were from the West Coast, and they realised up to 9s 4d. The yarding of pigs was not large, but was more than the local requirements could absorb. Values were still on a low basis. Choppers, sold from 33s to £3 lis, iporkers 20s to 24s 6d, heavier 26s to 32s 6d; baeoners 35s 6d to 44s 6d, heavier 45s to 52s 6d.
