The Japanese occupied 'Shan Hal Kuan in the afternoon, -alter a brink offensive lasting only 4 hours, in which the infantry, artillery and aeroplanes co-operated with the support of two destroy e rs. The Japanese . have now demanded the withdrawal of all Ch'nese troops to -Changli on the PeiwingJMukdcn railway, about forty miles southward of Shan Hai Kuan. Part 6 of th e city wall were destroyed. Earlier, four thousand Japanese infantry made a desperate assault, but they were repulsed by fierce Chinese machine gun fire.
