AUSTRALIAN HARVEST
RECORD YIELD EXPECTED
SYDNEY, December 31
Owing to favourable weather conditions experienced in the wheat-growing areas in Australia, there are now prospects of a record harvest for the Commonwealth. Various estimates of the West Australian yield have been made, somo as high as 52,000,000 bushels, but traders in Perth are more inclined to take 50,000,000 bushels as a guide. 'South Australia will easily establish a. record, as some authorities estimate that the State harvest will reach 60,000,000 bushels. A few weeks ago the crops in the central western and north-western areas of New South Wales were deteriorating owing ,to lack of moisture, but the beneficial rains since recorded have revived them, and now New South Wales expects to garner as much as 62,500,000 bushels. This year Victoria will have practically no self-sown crops, which were an important factor in the yield of 1931-32. According to reports from several country centres the yield an acre will be heavy, and merchants expect a total yield of 50,000,000 bushels. Provided that no unforeseen conditions arise between now and liaivest time to cause serious damage, the yield for the Commonwealth may exceed the record figure of 1920-31. Unofficial estimates place the yield for the season at. 225,752,000 bushels, as against 189.653,054 bushels in 193132 and 213,594,391 bushels in 1930-31.
