Hopman, who had played brilliantly through the test, went down to Allison through superior courtcraft. Van Ryn’s victory over Sproule was unexpected, but hi.? service reliability countered Sproule’s shots. Hopman and Crawford after their defeat of Allison and Van Ryn yesterday, were disappointing. Vines and Gledhill on their present form are the better pair. Crawford in the final of the doubles appeared listless and in need of a spell. Hopman was also weak on the backhand.
