(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.)
(Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) DUBLIN, December 28
The Government is in a pecul ar position in so far that it is unable to obtain a hangman to execute Patrick McDermott, convicted of murdering his ■brother. The English executioner, pier, repont was previously employed for Free ! Stat e executions, but Mr de Valera is believed to be disinclined to engage him because he executed rebels in the 1921-22 civil war.
Th e Government’s policy is to appoint
an Irish-speaking Irishman to vacant posts, but no Irishman is willing to accept the hangman’s job. The execution had been fixed for to-morrow.
