MEDICAL APPOINTMENT,

Ministerial approval lias been given to the appointment of Doctor L. C. McNickle, R.A., M.D., Ch.B., as Medical Superintendent of Southland Hospital. Dr. McNickle is at present..assistant Medical and Medical Registrar of Wellington Hospital. There were 27 applicants for the position.

’XMAS STREET COLLECTION

CHRISTCHURCH, December 23.

The Rotary Club made its annual street appeal to-day to provide ’Xmas cheer for the poor families. The total amount collected in the streets was £1126 Is lid, and the total sum in hand, including donations, is £1443 Is lid, with more still to come. Last year the street collections realised £IOO6 15s 6d, and the total with donations was £I4OO,
