CONDITION - FAIRLY fSERIOUS.
. • AUCKLAND, December 22. , A fitter, employed ' at -the ,Westfield Freezing Works’, ;JM(r • Ernest Alfred Abbot, married, aged 44, received severe head injuries at 6 a.m. yesterday when he was struck by a, piece of falling iron at his employment. The injured man, who lives at Wallace Street, Papatoetoe, was taken by a. St. John ambulance to the Auckland Hospital, his condition being described late' last evening as fairly .serious.
STRUCK BY TRAIN
GREYMOUTH, December .24,
Severe injuries to the head were sustained by a single man, John J. Monaghan, aged about 39 years, yesterday, when he was struck by the afternoon’s goods train from Rewanui, shortly after 4.15 o’clock The injured man was lying on the railway track, parrallel to and just outside the rails, with his head facing towards Ruuanga, when he was struck just above tho right temple by the cow-catcher of the engine, and thrown to one side. AVhen picked up he was still conscious, and was found to have sustained a frightful gash. Monaghan was removed to the Grey Hospital in a serious condition .
