WESTLAND RACING CLUB

PROSPECTS FOR MONDAY

The West Coast Racing Circuit wiU be opened on Monday with the Westland Racing Chib’s midsummer meeting. Although there are not a large number of Canterbury horses engaged, the clas s of West Coast candidates is exceptionally good and the racing should prove to b e very interesting. The Canterbury horses racing at Hokitika are: Polydora, Scarlet Pimpernel, .Ringing Cbe e r (H. Nurse) ; Verden, R.iri (R. Adamson); Pakitere, Red (Spray (A. 3. Ellis); Adelphi (T. Lloyd, but in charge of R. Adamson); The Sun (T. Tarpey). All the Canterbury horses should shape well, but a gtern opposition will be found to be offering from West Const homes, whose only setback in a number of cases will bo on account of not having a race. In addition many have not been very seriously extended in trials, owing to the hard nature of the tracks. The Hokitika Club have the appointments in splendid order for their two.day meeting, and patrons are assured of a grand day’s sport. Dividends will b e paid in fields down to five starters. This is a rew adoption on tho West .Coast, and the innovation should prove a highly successful one. The first race start® at 12.15 p.m.
