ISYDNEY, December 23,
Upon arrival in Sydney from abroad, Mr W. Hughes said: lam of the opinion bhitaga have distinctly improved throughout the Commonwealth. Referring, to the economic situation, Mr Hughes said the only hope for Australia was that Britain should give a lead to the world. He had become aware of a more hopeful tone among men of affairs, with the revival of confidence, generally, which, if slight, was distinct.' * Mr Hughes' expressed the opinion that unless wool and wheat prices wont up, it would bo very difficult indeed for the country to get out of its troubles.
MR HUGHES BREAKS' ANKLE.
SYDNEY, December 23.
Right Hon. W. M. Hughes, who re--turned yesterday from his visit, to-Ot-tawa and Britain, broke his ankle a few hours later through falling across a garage well, from which he was unaware that the cover had been removed. .
