U.S. INCOME! TAX
CURTAILMENT IN INCOME.

WASHINGTON, December 23.
The preliminary income tax statistics for the year 1931 -show an amazing curtailment in incomes. It is reported that last year the total was thirteen billion dollars as compared with seventeen billions in 1930, and twenty-five billions in 1929. The tax returns listing “speculative profits” totalled only 283 million dollars for 1931, as compared with 775 millions in 1930, and 2044 millions in 1929.
INDEPENDENCE FOR PHILIPPINES
WASHINGTON, December 23
The United States Senate to-day adopted the Conference report on the Philippine Bill, granting independence in ten years’ time. The report was then passed on to the House.
THE ROYAL FAMILY
RUGBY, December 22,
The King and Queen were' accompanied by the Princess Elizabeth and the Princess Margaret when they travelled to-day to Sandringham, where the Royal family will gather on Christmas Day.
REVOLUTIONARIES PARDONED
DILLY, December 23
Eleven Portuguese revolutionaries who are interned on Timor Island have been pardoned by the Portuguese Government. They are now awaiting transport homeward.
