CHRISTMAS BROADCAST,

Thc apparatus to be installed at j Sandringham for the King’s broadcast speech on Christmas Day was des- | patched from the Broadcasting House yesterday. Two lyicrophones will be placed on the right and left of His Majesty, and the speech will be picked up and broadcast over a wider area than lias ever been available befoie. The land lines from Sandringham will be connected with special lilies to all transmitting stations in the country, the New Empire Broadcasting station at Daventry which will send the speech out to all parts of the Empire.

The King’s Empire broadcast on Christmas Day will last an hour in transmission, from 2 to 3 o’clock, Greenwich mean time. The message and accompanying programme are being recorded so that there may be entire- re-broadcasts. The Daventry broadcast programmes (the times being Greenwich) lor the week-end will he: To-day: 9.30 a.m. Time Signal from “Big Ben”, - Carols by the Wireless Singers; 10.0, Announcements; 10,15, Pianoforte recital; 10.30’, Gramophone records or dance music; 11.15 to 11.30, news bulletin. To-morrow: 9.30 a.m. Time Signal and Studio service conducted by Rev. John Mayo, (Rector of White Chapel Church, London); 9.55, recital of gramophone records of ’Xmas music; 10.45, a- reading; 11.15 to 11.30, Summary of the week’s news. Monday: 9.30 a.m.. Time Signal and Empire programme for Christmas Day: 10.25, gramophone records of popular music (Gilbert and Sullivan, Edward German, etc); 11.15 to 11.30, news bulletin.
