DUNEDIN, December 19

At midday yesterday, a White Star aeroplane, No 2. just escaped destruction by tire while standing at the Taieri Aerodrome. Fortunately, members of the staff noticed smoke coming from the pilot’s compartment and found that tin- pilot’s helmet and cushion word on fire. The blaze was quickly extinguished. It is believed that the rays of the sun focus-ed by the goghs which had been left in the cockpit were the cause of the fire.
