WELLINGTON BANDS
PROPOSAL FOR AMALGAMATION.
(Per Press Association Copyright.)
WELLINGTON, December 20
Mr H. D. Bennett, president, of the New Zealand Bands’ Association, has launched important and novel proposals involving the amalgamation in one organisation of all of the bands in Wellington C%. For some time past Mr Bennett hag been convinced that brass band talent has been dissipated by the existence of so many units, each seeking to secure the beet players, and so preventing the possibility of the formation of one really first-class brass band. This scheme for Wellington proposes the assembling of all the band talent under one organisation, forming a finstclass civic band and a number of graded bands. Mr Bennett believe s that, if this could be brought about, it would make possible the engagement of a first-class conductor from overseas, who would not only conduct the civic band, but would train the grade bands, and would also be responsible for an annual classification. He ' also proposes that the senior or civic bapd shall not be eligible for contests.
