RED SHADOW’S CAREER
REMARKABLE YOUNG PACER
The disqualification imposed on W. G. Deyell and. F. A. Neale tor supplying false information regarding Red Shadow, means that the crack pater and otner horsey in which Deyell and Neale may be interested are automatically disqualified. Pallet 369 provid-s that any person wilfully failing to register ::ny partnership, and supplying false information, may be fined any sum, and together with the horse concerned may be disqualified for any .specified period, of for lile. The term cf disqualification imposed on the the parties in the Red Shadow case is five rears.
Rod Shadow, who is only five years old, has been a wonderful, performer, and his winnings to date total £4969. He was bred by J. Rryce, being by the American horse Travis Axworthy from Our Aggie, a mare who raced in Ireland and Scotland, and was brought to New Zealand from the latter country when Brveo settled in the Domin-
ion. Before racing as a two-year-old Red Shadow was sold to W. G. Deyell and F. Neale, the price being reported to he £I2OO. The colt started three times at that age, running second at Ashburton to Arethusa, and later failed in the Sapling Stakes, but had gone right off after travelling to Ashburton. His three-vear-old career was marked with singular success,and in 18 starts be registered nine wins, and four minor placings, capturing in prizemoney £2019. His chief victories at that age were gained in the Great Northern Derby, 3.20 2-5, Park Handicap. 3.19 4-5, at Epsom, Brighton Handicap, 2.45 3-5, Tainui Handicap, 3.20 4-5, at Forbury Park, and Easter Handicap, 4.27, at Addington. H,e also won the King George Handicap at the Forbury Park summer meeting, and at the winter fixture in Dunedin dead-heated with Pageant in the Flying Handicap. Last season, as a four-yearold, Red Shadow was equally successful, and in 1(1 starts lie recorded six firsts, two seconds and five thirds, winning £1305 in stakes. His successful achievements were in the Empire Handicap, Homebv Handicap, Selwyn Handicap, High Class Handicap, all at Addington, 'County Handicap at Ashburton, and Grey mouth Handicap at Greymouth, and his wins were gained over all distances. I This season lie was displaying remarkable form, and after raging at the Addington spring and summer meetings, and at Wellington, his earnings reached £ISOO. At the August
meeting- lie won the August Handicap, in very easy style on a heavy track, and the King George Handicap. On the third day ho was beaten in the National Handicap by Harold Logan, who again defeated him in the New Zealand Cup Trial at Hutt Park. Red Shadow ws one of the main fancies for the New Zealand Cup last month, but fourth was the best he could do. However, on the second day bcl won the Courtenay Handicap, running the two miles in 4.18 2-5 off 4.25, a marvellous performance for a young pacer. On the final day lie finished second in the Christchurch Handicap, being beaten by Lindbergh, who was caught in the right humour, and had previously registered 4.18 at Addington. Red Shadow’s last appearance was in the Free-for-All, in which he ran unplaced. Red Shadow gave every indication of going on to further great deeds, and many good judges were prepared to see him later reach the high standard set by the champion Harold I.ogan.
