WHOLESALE ARRESTS MADE. (United Press Association -By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) BUENOS AIRES, December 17. The Argentine Congress on Saturday night approved of the declaration for thirty days of a state of s’ege as a move to forestall an attempted revolution, which wa s disclosed on Friday. Meanwhile, the police ar e making wholesale arrests of radical leaders. Th e former President, Yrigoyen has been sent to Martin Garcia Island, where he had been exiled once before. A retired Lieut.-Colonel, named Atilio Cattaiico, has confessed to the leadershop of a nationwide subversive plot. Declaring that a seditious movement to overthrow the Administration through a terrorist programme has been uncovered, the Argentine Government on 'Fr'dty night cal Aid a meeting of Congress for Saturday to declare a s tat e of siege. Three former Presidents, Marcelo Dealver, Hipolito Rigoyen and Adolfo Guemes, a radical leader, were arrested along with 30 former police and army officials. The arrests cam© after the seizure by the police of one thousand bombs, allegedly for us© on a nationwide plot by extremists.
The Government published a declaration that the plan was to kill high officials and seize public buildings. The announcement said the plot was frustrated, and that a state of gioge would be sought only long enough to complete the means of defence. Later, an accidental explosion revealed a store of bombs in th© suburb of Flores. The occupant s lied. The police found a list of sixty names, and started making arrests. Th© Tar Minister said the army were not involved. The movement is said to have been scheduled for an outbreak on Friday in the interior as well as at the capital. A state of siege has already been virtually established. An attempted radical demonstration at Buenos Aires was quietly dispersed by large, numbers of police on Friday night.
