EX-SERVICEMEN

HOKITIKA EXECUTIVE MEETING

The monthly meeting of the executive of the Hokitika branch of tlie Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last evening, when there were present Messrs M. C. Armstrong (president), R. Paterson, W. E. Brown, G. A. King, C. Hart, T. Lynch, C. BlerHi. J. L. Menzies, T. Cooper and T. Stuart.

A gnuit of £lO from the Westland Patriotic Society was received, and also a donation of £5 for the Ross bra Hell, both grants to be used for the relief of unemployed ex-servicemen.

The central committee of the Flock House Scheme wrote asking that, in view of the fact that this district was unable to provide a trainee, the branch pay for an extra boy from Dunedin. Jt was decided to ascertain from Greymouth if the arrangements made with them had been finalised, before entering into into any arrangement with Dunedin.

The Taradale branch of the Association wrote asking the assistance of the Hokitika branch towards selling of tickets for their art union. It wu* decided to purchase the book of tickets on behalf of the local branch. Mr A. IT. Lawn wrote regarding arrangements for the hire of the liall on New Year's Fve, and asking why lie was not considered when the booking was arranged, it was decided to reply to Air Lawn, advising him that the hall was booked by the conductor of the Black Hand Orchestra, under the same terms as last year, and it was understood by this Association that it was-carrying out a similar arrangement as in previous years. It was decided that all future bookings of the hall he in the hands of tile secretary and president, with a recommendation that the organisations which already have definite annual fixtures be given preference for those dates. A letter was received from Headquarters enclosing badge of membership. The Greymouth branch forwarded a map of the territory of the local branch extending south from the Teremakau.—, Approved.

Headquarters advised that grants for October, and November had been allocated, and that the sum of £2O would he made available immediately, and aiso asking for a statement of hmv all past grants have been expended. The secretary was instructed to supply the required information. Tt was decided to appoint Mr Kcmaria n as lion, auditor.

Details were finalised regarding the Christmas tree party. The following were elected members of the branch: P. JR.. Whitforcl, T. Wells, ( has. -McLean and Eric Smith.
