ON AUSTRALIAN PRODUCE. (Per Press Association Copyright.} WELLINGTON, December 15. An embargo on'Australian fruit and vegetables AA - .as announced by the Minister of Customs .to-night. It will not apply to fruit andvegetables exported from Australia on or before December 16 th. In a- (statement,, Mr Downie'Stewart says: “The Government, for a long time, ha® unsuccessfully endeavoured to secure tha removal by the CommonAvealth of an embargo on New Zealand'' fruit and fruit plants.' This embargo is very serious for New Zealand, especially during the present, economic and financial crisis, Avhen the necessity for obtaining every available market for our produots:is paramount.” Mr Stewart adds: “The embargo is not being imposed from Australian oempetiton. It Avotild be removed at any time Australia consented to admit New Zealand fruit and fruit plants.”
