The Committee met at 7.40. Pieeent: Messrs J. A. Murdoch (County Chairman). T. R. Chestennan. VV. A. Jamieson, VV SCufie, i.\l. Keenan, and 13. Ward.
Tlie minutes of the previous meeting were, confirmed.' The accounts for the month of Nov ember were examined in deto.l, and the amount approved for payment totalled <£1428 5s 9d. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. Prom Marine Department agreeing to accept £3O annually towards cogt of maintenance of Okuru harbour. —Referred to Shipping Company. ■From Minos Department inquiring in respect to expenditure of balance of vote, £ls, £ for ■£, fo r back tracks.— Received and referred to the overseer.
From Lands Department submitting for approval plan of land taken for road at W T aiho.—Received and agreed
From Receiver of Gold Revenue asking that certain rents totalling 11s 6d be treated as not recoverable. —Received and agreed to.
From J. M. Built and C<*y. regarding sawmill operating at Teremakau and ns’ng ferry road for cartage, asking attention to ‘the road.—Received. The Chairman reported on visit the previous ‘day and action approved in meeting request.
From Town Clerk, Hokitika, applying for £lO being half estimated cost rtf Office expenses for Unemployment Committee. —Received and agreed to. From W. 0. Bierworth, Ross, regarding track repairs to Greenland mining .areas. Received and no action taken.
From Park and Murdoch, Hokitika, asking consent to application to Warden for tramway of A. R. Wallis Ltd., •■rossing lower Wat.afoa road reserve.— Received and 'agreed on usual conditions.
From same, on behalf of 0. E. Bra,nsden asking permission to construct tramway at 'Koiterangi, crossing road hear Kbkatahi river bridge,—Received and agreed to on usual conditions. From Cr. Donovan reporting Okarito. river now threatened cemetery area on south side ,and suggesting permission be obtained to remove bodies in case of emergency,—Received, action to be taken if necessary.
From Health Officer, Christchurch, granting permission required if needs-. Hairy,—Received with thanks. From Cr. Jamieson, reporting river encroachments at Koiterangi.—Received. Nolan wrote regarding work in Okuru district.—Received. It was resolved running planks be placed on Collier’s Creek bridge, and that the question of replacing Haptika bridge be referred t 0 Public ’Works Department. HIGHWAY’S REPORT! LOWER KOKATAHI-McARTHUR ROAD. Motor worn holcO, scours and depressions, were repaired with fine gravel from roadside dumps over a distance of 'll miles, absorbing 46 cubic yards of gravel. In addition 24 cubic yards of gravel was carted by No. 3 lorry and placed on the road between the 7 mile and 9 mile pegs. A portion of manuka scrub, bank sheath.ng, on the protected portion of* the Kokatahi river above Kokatahi bridge w!K repaired alld strengthened with 32 cubic yards of manuka scrub. Th e power grader was need grading displaced material from the outer sides 'to tho road centre for a distance of 4 miles. UPPER KOKATAHI ROAD.
Repairs were confined to patching small depressions over a distance of one mile, absorbing 6 cubic yards of fine gravel. LAKE KANIERI ROAD.
Casual and unemployed labour were engaged in widening to 18 feet * in width, 'and reducing the hill beyond the One Mile peg for 3 feet in depth, for 2 chains in length, 2 chains of filling, 3 foot 6 inches in height 14 feet in width, at the western toe of the hill; 2 chains of widening 6 feet in
width, an average depth of filling 5 feet; 2 chain s of widening 6 l' e et in width average depth of cutting 5 feet; also 400 links of widening 2 feet in width on each side, of road with an average height of 2 feet. Motor worn hides were -repaired a distance of 6 miles using 24 cubic yards of gravel. Unemployed dabour assisted in elearng. gorse and other growth from the roadside for 600' links in length, cleaning watertableis 500 links, cleaning drains 300 links, raking loo®© stone from the road at Bouchers Hill for 550 links in •length, filling old sunken gravel pit at roa-d edge, and a danger to traffic with 24 cubic yards of stone, and gravel. Total length of widening 11 chains. DETOUR ROAD. Repairs were effected to scours and depiec-sions with fine gravel over the whole length *of road, and scoured material replaced on the road for 600 '•inks in length. DISTRICT ROADS REPORT.

Kumara to Kapitea, £2 for £1 grant. The work of reforming, draining and metalling 12 feet in width and 12 inches in depth wa s completed o v er the specified ‘distance of 20 chains. /MAINTENANCE.
Unemployed labour was Usefully engaged in removing young gorse and blackberry growth and loose stone from Kumara to Kapitea. Old metalling on the southern side of Acre creek ; a-Ro clearing growth, cleaning watertab'es %nd renewing a damaged culvert on Teremakau 'Settlement road.; cleaning. tables and/Clearing growth from ’Kumara road; clearing growth aDd re-, pairing decking on a bridge on Loopline road; also, renewing decking on -Kapitea bridge,'Kuniara road; clearing portions of the. main highway between Duffer’s road atid Looplfie road; removing growth and levelling the high outer sides and raking loose stone from Awatuna road; dlearing and repairing Gillam’s Gu ly road, completing the forming and metajljng.; also culvert construction on Spencer road extension, giving Mr D. Unemployed labour was also engaged in opening a drain through Mr Bond’s property; cleaning a drain oil One Mile Road; clearing and cleaning a portion of Arahura school ground; add filling a large find dangerous hole on the main Highway nea r Mr W. SOUTHERN. RIDING. Repairs were effected by the resident roadman to Wanganui Plat and other roads in the Inter-Wanganui district. The .power grader wag taken from Kanieri by roadman Bernhard and used in gradDg La Fontaine, Wanganui Flat, and Haddock roads, unemployed labour assisting casual • labour, in the removal of spoil from the roads. Repairs were effected by casual labour to Wataroa Flat and Richardson roads; and the removal of wind blown trees from Happy Valley track. General. It was resolved to proceed with Mvninnpua Creek read to Mananui as unemployed labour js available; It was decided to notify the public against placing rubbish on road reserves to the . danger and risk of traffic. TENDERS. Gravel supply ; P. Coyle 2s 6d; ,7. Cameron 2 S 6d. The tenders being equal a lot decided-fit favour of P. Coyle. Hardware supplies:' Two tenders were referred t 0,,.
