The prosecutions were the -result. of a polite raid on the evening of. November 5, When; thirteen men were found drinking. "He has been thoroughly well plucked and is giving, up the hotel ■next Friday,” said MrG. Uren, who appeared for the defendants. Counsel said that Haltmeyer was a laker by trade. He and his wife were totally inexperienced hotelkeepers. On one occasion a fight started in a passage and while the licensee and his wife went to stop the trouble the shelves were stripped, of bottlefpy customers in the har. Another time somebody turned on an electric iron and the place Was nearly burned down. On the night the police visited the hotel both the public and private hare were in MU swing. Eight of the men were' each fined £1 and cox-ts.
