In reply to Hawke’s Bay’s first innings total of 150, Canterbury scored 220 (Hamilton 31, Dimeter 17, Morris 20, Page 66, Lester 30). Rain commenced when the Canterbury innings finished and stumps were drawn.

The initial Hawke Cup cricket challenge of the season commenced at Hamilton to-day when South Auckland met Taranaki in dull'weather on a wicket onh T slightly affected by overnight rain. The outfield was dull.
South Auckland won the toss, and compiled 243, Badeley, Winger and Diskette being the principal run-get-ters. The score at luncheon was seven for 157. .. A .
Taranaki at stumps had compiled 121 for 'the loss of eight wickets. Their batsmen could not cope with the bowling of Bndoley, Going and Barnett, Scores:

The final selection has been deferred till the morning of the match, y

(Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, December 9. Critics generally, praise the coolness of the Australian selectors. The “Evening News” says that probably the last has been seen of Kippax, and Grimmett may be given a rest, as the’ batsmen temporarily have the better of him.
