CANBERRA, December 9.
The Federal Cabinet has decided that, during the tourist season from December 1 to May 1, (apple export season), British ships of not less than ten thousand tons burden, an c i fourteen knots speed, may carry passengers between Hobart and Brisbane, and Sydney and Melbourne without making formal application or paying any fee.
£30,000 DAMAGE BY FIRE. MELBOURNE, December 8. A large block of buildings at Pyramid Hill was destroyed by lire. The damage is estimated at thirty thousand pounds.
INCREASE IN NAVAL PAY. (Received this day at 3 a.m.) CANBERRA, December 9. The Minister of Defence (Sir George Pcarct) announced that the Federal Government lma decided to increase the pay of fh e lower ratings in the navy by ten pence a day.
