MINING INTERESTS
Zincon, found on black sand beaches, is a mineral in tetragonal crystals, usual of a brown or grey colour. It consists of silica and zirconia. A red variety used as a gem is called hyacinth, colourless, pale, yellow and v smoky brown variety from Ceylon are called “Fargon”. Another, mineral closely associated with gold is platinum, it i.s found in grains and nuggets in the deposits or streams, just as gold is found, it accompanies serpentine rocks and •chiomo ores, but as yet not -found.’in veins. ]fc has been discovered in isometric crystals as in cubes and alike', gold''it- is not affected by an y of the single acids, but when mixed with 1U per cent, of silver, nitric acid will dissolve the whole. Tt i.s largely, used by dentists.
