SUPERANNUATION FUNDS BILL,
(l J t rress Assoviatiun — Copyright.)
.WELLINGTON, December 6. The select committee of the House of Representatives which is hearing evidence as to the Government Superannuation Funds Bill resumed its sittings today. The parties heard were the superannuated public servants of Ulmer stem North, and the superannuated teachers of New Zealand. Tomorrow morning evidence will be given on behalf of the Railway Superannuitunts’ A&jociation.
The Palmerston North superannuitants viewed with grave, concern the growth of the idea that contracts might readily be broken. They expressed the opinion that the National f Expenditure Commission’s 1 report had caused the widespread belief that the funds are. i-n much a worse position than is actually the case. The superannuated teachers contended that, apart altogether ' from the. superannuation schemes, if the State,, on a ground of expediency, shattered! th© charter given on its honour, it. was difficult to see how commercial concerns, parties to contracts, and- ordinary citizens could be expected to honour the obligations to each other and to the State. ;
