OPIUM SMOKING
RAID ON CHINESE.
A GREYMOUTH CASE.
GREYMOUTH, December 7,
As the result of a-'raid on their abode in Gresson Street, Greymouth, yesterday, just before noon, by Sergeant J. Smyth and Constable Downes,, two old Chinese residents were before the Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon on charges of having in their possession opium pipes and other utensils for use in the smoking of opium,’ whilst one of them was charged with having prepared opium in his possession.

Ah Wee, eged 67 years ,was charged that on December 6, 1932,. at Greymouth, he was in- possession of -pipes and other utensils for Use in connection with the smoking of opium. He was further charged that a Greymould on December 6, he was found in pos'-ession of prepared opium. /,. As Fun, aged 77 years, was,charged that on December 6, 1932, at Greymouth, he was in possession of pipes and other utensils for use in connect tion with the smoking 0 f opium. Sergeant Smyth asked for a remand until to-morrow. The accused, he said, could only be remanded for 48 hours. There were two charges against Ah Wee. The accused would be making application for bail'; As they were liable to a maximum fine of £IOO, he asked that bail be forthcoming. Both accusd were remanded to .December Bth, bail being allowed in self £SO, and one surety of £SO. Bail was. forthcoming, ' : • rW-7
