A LOTTERY
TWO MEN FINED.

. Many points concerning ‘‘Red Jockey’s Card” lottery, were revealed before the Magistrate, Air Mosley this morning. Frederick Ronald Beale alias “Nippy” Beale (agent and salesman) 39, was charged with establishing the lottery on October 31 and was fined £SO and costs.
Hugh O’Connor (a land salesman) 37, was charged with assisting in the conduct of a lottery and was fined £4O and costs.
Both men pleaded guilty, after ovid-' ence had been heard.
The police described how the lottery was conducted- before each race meeting. The lists of jockeys likely to he riding was printed, a great deal of it -by guess work. Each jockey was allotted a number and three numbers were e:«ch marked off on every earn. Tickets were , sold and persons holding the tickets with the numbers of the jockeys who had most, points at the meeting, were entitled to a prize. It might he that in the present case the-e was a takedown, as threats were made to the holder of the winning ticket.
Counsel for accused don id that the scheme was a take down. There was' a he said, that the ticket had been altered.
