The amending Crimes Bill, said bv Senator Daly to assail the freedom of the press which had taken centuries to establish, was carried through all stages of the Senate in committee. ■Senator MacLachlan had an amendment inserted providing for a maximum 'phnaFly of £SOO or two years’ for a person publishing any seditious matter ; ai’so a maximum penalty of £IOOO or life for a person knowingly inciting members of the King’s forces to mutiny. The Senate adioui'ncd for Christmas.
