GOLD DISCOVERY
SENSATION AT TAKAPUNA. (Per Press Association Copyright.) -■ AUCKLAND, December 1. A sensation was caused in Tabapuna to-day when it',was 'reported that gold had. .been discovered in the borough. Questioned about the matter, Mr MeVeagli, of MeVengh and Fleming, barristers and solicitors, of Auckland, confirmed the report. Mr McVeagh added that three men had discovered gold on a property at the rear of the Grammar School at Clifton- a few days ago, quite accidently, white carrying out experiments with iron sand. Goldl, he added had -been found in more .places than one, and bad been submitted to an expert, one of- the best authorities in Auckland, who had- certified to the genuaness of the metal. Mr McVeaglx said that two of the claimants were Mr P. Mcllveney j of Devonport and Mr N. J. Jones, of Auckland. They had to-day made application for a prospecting license to tli© Commissioner of Crown Landis for the North Auckland district. An area of 100 acres was mentioned.
