' HIT BY ENGINE. fPer Press Association — Coiyr'ght.) CARTERTON, December 1. Thomas Daniel Keane, aged about 46, a surface-man, employed by the Railway Department, was killed instantly at Feathers ton this morning. Deceased was travelling north from Fea-therston station on a jigger, when h e was overtaken by an engine proceeding to Masterton to take part in ballast, work. The engine ran the jigger down and Keane was killed.

Deceased came to Feathers ton from Gisborne and his only relative so far known is a sister living at Hokitika.

The deceased is a mem lieu of a well known family of the district. Mi- s Keane of park St root. Mrs C. Black formerly of the City Hotel, Ross, Mrs Wright of pukekura Mrs Linstrom of Blenheim are sisters and Mr George Keane of the Railway Department at Hokitika is a brother.
