AUCKLAND, November 29
The hearing of the appeal of the jockey Leonard H. Watson, against the decision of the Auckland District Committee of the Now Zealand Racing Conference in disqualifying 1 him for life was concluded, the judges’ finding being as follows : “Having heard, and.Jcarefully considered, the evidence given and .placed before them, the judges see no.; reason for dissenting from the decision ! of -the 1 Auckland District Committee |n finding that the said L. H. Watson was guilty of corrupt and fraudulent, practice within tlvo meaning of Rule 351 (T,N) I of the rules of racing, by conspiring with others to permit and Assist the horse Royal Survey to win the Bucklaud Hack Handicap, run at the meeting held bv the Franklin Racing Club on March 7, 1931; and, therefore, unanimously dismiss the appeal lodged by the said L. H. Watmn. The judges, however ar© of opinion that the penalty of life disqualification imposed by the District. Committee upon the said L. H. Watson was, under all of the circumstances, too severe, and therefore unanimously reduce such term of j disqualification to a term of disqualification for seven years from October 6, 1931.” ■.
