HEART OPERATIONS
DOCTOR’S AMAZING EXPERIMENTS.
LONDON, November 7. Major operations on the human heart are foreshadowed by the extraordinary experiments which Dr Brnchinenko has perfomed on dogs. The hearts of 12 have been dissected by him in the last two years, and still survive in normal health, says the Moscow correspondent of the “News Chronicle.”-
Tliof heart of one dog was sewn in 17 places by Professor Terebinski, (assisted by Dr Brunchinenko’s “artificial heart,” which consists of a circulation pump connected with the vascular system.
After the heart has been disconnected a. special chemical substance is injected and prevents the blood from congealing for many hours during the preliminary operation and while the heart is being linked up again. In a recent terrifying experimental operation, a dog’s heart was severed and replaced by the artificial “heart,” and a second apparatus replaced its lungs, oxygenating the blood. Although the shock may kill the clog, the li-arb was kept alive for six hours.
