HOUSE BURNED AT HERETAUNGA

Fire compUetely gutted a four-room-ed house in Sutherland Avenue, Heretaunga, about 1.30 this morning. The house was occupied by Mr R. Wallis, who was awakened by the sound of burning. He managed! to snatch a flaw clothes before making his escape-

The Upper Hutt Brigade was quickly on the scene, but the house was too far gone to be;saved. The building was insured for £4OO in the Stare Advances office, but many personal effects were lost.

HIKURANGI MINE AFIRE. WHANGAREI, November 23. The Hikurangi Coal Company, whose mine was partially flooded a few days , ago, is now called upon to extinguish a fire, which resulted from spontaneous combustion during the dog watch last night.
