CHRISTCHURCH, November 23,

There was an exceptionally good sal© for lambs iat Aldington to-day, when a small entry stimulated fierce competition from butchers and caused a vise of 2s to 3s a head. Cattle were cheaper, although-tlie entry was snUaller that .the last two Eiales, and beef , was veiy low in price

Food ewes and lambs in the store pens rose by. a shilling a head, and wethers and hoggets sold about on a par.

There was a smaller yarding of beef, hut it was sufficient for requirement®. The market opened lifelessly. Sales were hard to make throughout, with a drop in prices. 'Over all it averaged (about 10s a head, though in cases it was substantially,.mute than.this. Not many steers exceeded £9 a head, and very little beef exceeded 20s per 1001 b. Values were on a par with late rates, with no signs of an advancement.

The store sheep entry was about the same size as last week, and contained, a fair sprinkling of good ewes and lambs. Values for hoggets and wetbeirs were about on a par with those ruling last week, but good ewds with wellgrown lambs were about Is a head better. Good cross-bred' and three-quarter-bred ewes with lambs by Southdowns sold to 8s 3d. There was a smaller yarding of fat, lambs. The butchers’ competition was; more spirited to fill their requirements. The quality was generally good. The top price was 19s 10d. There was an average’rise of 3.? per lieaa. There was a full yarding of fat pigs. Prices were the lowest recorded for many years. Good porkers sold from 2-s to 24s 6d, bei=t duality 26s to 30s„ b,acom?rs 32s 6d to 38s 6d, heavy baconers £2 to £2 8s fid, extra heavy prime to 55s fid, choppers 28s fid .to £8 Is. Store pigs were decidedly easier.
