MAGISTRATE’S COURT
CHARGE OF FALSE PRETENCES. At tli© Magistrate’s Court this afternoqn before Messrs W. E. Richards and A. E. Benjamin, justices, the police charged Alfred Sydney Kerr, 28 years of age, with having obtained 5s from James Kerr by false pretence and with obtaining 10,s from Mrs M. J. Bergstrom by similar meal's. The accused pleaded guilty and bad nothing to say.
Sergeant King stated .that th© accused had come into town yesterday a|nd (had committed one offence and the .second one to-day. He had stated that he had .a motor lorry at Goldsboijough that had broken down, but lm did, not own.,one -and never had. M e had a long list convic£t o n s for similar offences and on ,“t !Nelsop was sentenced, to three months on thre© charges,. to be concurrent. Accused was convicted on op©,.charge aqd sentenced to one month in Greymouth gaol, and on the second charge was convicted and discharged, an order also being mad© that moneys in h's possession, 7s lOd, be refunded to Mrs Bergstrom.
