REPLACING PLAYERS. PLEA MADE TO ENGLISH UNION. WELLINGTON, November 16. The New Zealand Rugby Union has written to the English Rugby Union making a strong p'lea to be allowed to continue the 40 year's’ practice l of replacing injured players. ‘‘This pract’ -,e has been so long in vogue in New Zealand,” the letter says, “that it ha® become as much an accepted feature of the game as any of the primary rules. The present generation of player's and supporters have known no other custom.”
The New Zealand Union points to the injuries sustained by Sobey and Murray during the British team’s tour of New Zealand, and also quotes a letter received from the British Medical Association urging that players with head injuries should not he allowed to continue playing.
