The national conference of the School Committees’ Association concluded today. It adopted an 'Otago remit that, •when it is considered advisable to take group proficiency examinations, the cost of transit of country pupils to the various centres be a charge on the Department. It was agreed to ask the Minister, Mr Masters, to giv e every consideration to the renewal of the free school railway tickets formerly issued to children for weekly "or less frequent nee f° r returning them home. It was pointed out that a cancellation order Issued by th© Director of Education had recently been modified. Following on the report of a subcommittee, it, was unanimously agreed to support th© principle of th© National Federation of School Committees, and to draft rules on' ’the basis of the South Island federation to be submitted to the School Committees for approval. . '
