Within three years of March 31 next the erection of the National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum is to b© completed. The Board of Trustees tihis afternoon signed a contract with the Fletcher Construction Company, .[Ltd., for the work at a c°gt of £162,218 ) the Board reserving the right to omit portion of the’ Jjuilding of an approximate T ilu© of '£520,000. The decision is dependent upon tht finance available at the end of 12 months.

The highest tender was £187,000. The total cost of til© scheme, with preliminary and other expenses, is approximately £185,000. The Board has cash in hand of £57,000. Subscriptions promised are, expected conservatively to yield £13,000. With interest and a Government £ for £ subsidy, the Board believes it is assured of £149,0000' Being available.

It is anticipated that, 'as the work progresses, citizens will be inspired to make further contributions. The Board wag influenced in its decision to go ahead by the fact that the undertaking , would stimulate the- building industry generally.
