Frank Walter Barnes, 33, a butcher, Avas imprisoned to-day for a series of impostures. He opened a butchery, -stocked it with meat obtained from three firms by false pretences, and collected £.61 from several young men, whom Ire induced to deposit bonds, oh the understanding that he would give them jobs. Tile police said ia majority of (the men had been unemployed for a -long time, and' some had borrowed the money for their hondls. Accused had been convicted at Timaru, Nelson, Christchurch and Wellington for false - pretences. Accused was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment.
