TO COST £160,000.
(Per Press Association — Copyright.)
WELLINGTON, November 16.
A Christmas box to the unemployed and their dependents throughout the Dominion will b© made by tlx© Unemployment. Board as the result of a decision to pay wages bn the usual scale for two "■ weeks during the Christmas and New Year period, although the men will not be required to work.
The Board’s decision settles the fear recently expressed in Parliament that relief worker© would be stood down during the holidays period, and Jose wages for two or three weeks. Actually they will receive the usual wages and still be free to accept such other work as is available in that period.
It is expected that the Board’s decision regarding Christmas arrangements will represent a payment of over £160,000, for which no return in work will be asked. ■ i ’ -
