The Magistrate’s Court sat at Hoki* tika to-day, Mr W., Meldrum, S.M., being on the Bench,. JUDGMENT SUMMONS.

In a judgment summons case Robert Green!ess wag ordered to pay Mason Struthers and Co. Ltd.,. (Mr Murdoch) the gum of £8 17s Id - , and costs in default 14 days’ imprisonment. ;'s , ON PREMISES AFTER HOURS.

APPLICATION FOR BAIL. Application for granting of bail was made by Mr (Sellers on behalf of William Georgs Muir, who ; was committed last court day to the Supreme Court for trial on the charge of attempted murder at Ross.

Evidence in the case, Standard Insurance Coy. v. O. T. Woolhouse, being a claim for £6 8e 10d as premium in .a policy, was taken for the hearing to be heard in Christchurch. Counsel for plaintiff j (Mr Murdoch), said that defendant, who was a subagent of the company, took out a policy covering his Own stock. He • did not notify the company of his in* tention not to renew, and plaintiff company had renewed the; policy, in the absence of advice,

Defendant, who was represented by! Mr Elcock, contended that he, had considered that the policy would have lapsed if not paid by the required date, or if notice of renewal were not given. In previous years between the time of expiry and the payment of the premium be had received' no notice from the Company. , BREACH OF BY-LAWS.

For riding without a light, J. Roxburgh was fined os and costs.
