THE HOKITIKA CLUB,
YEAR’S ACTIVITIES REVIEWED
The annual meeting of the Hokitika Boxing Club took place on Monday evening in Keller’s rooms, Mr 'Stafford presiding over a good attendance.
The minutes of the last meeting and last annual meeting were read and confirmed.
Mr Stafford, in his report, .briefly outlined the enforced inactivity of the iClub during the .past year. The. venture of .staging a professional bout had met wit!}., gratifying public support, .and arrangements were almost finalised to hold another bout on Boxing Night. During the year, tfiie Club had ,jn the death of the late M r J. J. Breeze, one of its keenest members, and a gentleman who, s e association with the boxing so greatly helped to place this sport in such popular favour. They had said goodbye to another keen officer in Dr Hart, and welcomed - Dr Childs. He thanked the other officers for their assistance during hie term •of office, particularly the hon. secretary, ,Mr Beat, and also to the Hokitika “Guardian” for generous consideration, and interest in the Chub’s doings.
The treasurer’s balance showed a credit of £2O.
The following officers were elected: — Patron, [Mr F. McGregor; president, Mr J. Stafford (re-elected) ; viee-presi-dftnts, Messrs W, E. Williams (reelected), A. Lawn and D. Breeze; secretary, W.' E. Beat (re-elected) ; treasurer, Mf I°. Ballinger (re-elected) ; instructor, Mr R. Furnesg (re-elected); hon, surgeons, Drs. Childs and Basil Wilson; committees (combined), Mesons J. Stafford (chairman), F. McGregor, A. (Lawn, D. Breeze, F. Ballinger, R. Furness, D. Dowell, J. -Atkinson, R. Collett. M. McGavin, Jim Johnson, R. Bell, E. W. Heenan,' R. Lynn, W. Haybittle and O. Hahn and E. Best Secretary).
The membership fee was fixed at 10s lid.
The final decision of choice of professionals fdr Boxing Night was held over for a week. Mr R. Furness was appointed to supply names for preliminary bouts. .Mr Dowell, moved that £5 be voted to Mr Best, secretary of the Club .since
its inception ( in October 1928, and eulogized hie efforts in the interest of t«he Club. Seconded bv Mr McGavin, with several speaking in support. 'Carried.
Mr Best briefly returned thanks. Motions of thanks were carried to’ tho referees, Messrs Beban and O’Neil, to Mr Keller for use of his room, and the Hokitika “Guardian.” The meeting closed at 9 D.m.
