OBSTRUCTION OF CONSTABLE.

GREYTOWN, November 14
A rather unusual case was heard at the Greytown Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning when a local resident was charged with obstructing Constable Gregor in the execution of liis duty on the night of October 15. From the evidence, it was shown that two men were passing a licensed house when one entered the premises. The constable, who had -witnessed the entry .was crossing the road when defendant called out a warning to the other man, who made a speedy exit from the promises. Defendant was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months. The man who pleaded guilty to being on licensed premises during- prohibited hours, was convicted and fined £1 with 10s costs.
POWER POLE SMASHED
GREYTOWN, November 14.
Wairarapa Power Board linesmen found an pleotvic power pole bady smashed, at South Carterton on Friday morning. The indications pointed to the damage having been done by a motor vehicle leaving the read, but there was no sign of the vehicle, which must have suffered considerable damage.
BOYS LEAVE HOME
NEW PLYMOUTH, November 15
Two boys, aged 11 and 13, who left their homes at Wellington on November 8, were discovered at Patea tonight by Constable Kelly, and were detained. They spent Monday night at Maxwell, but it is believed that they walked most of the way from Wellington.

AUCKLAND, November 14. Leonard Andrews, aged fifty-two, whom the police said wa s a licensed bookmaker from Sydney, was lined £IOO to-day for keeping a common gaming house. When counsel pleaded that the accused had .been “struck for several doubles” on Saturday, the Magistrate commented: “He is not bound to pay out.’ Counsel : No, but a good sport d c es. If h© did not, the police would be the first to come-down on him.
