MR COATES’ SCHEME

WELLINGTON, November 15
The conference between Mr Coates and representatives of various Dep-art- ' ments of the 'State in connection with unemployment was resumed to-day, when Mr Coates announced that tw,o sub-committees had been appointed,, to consider varying aspects of land fettjf-, meat proposals which come under review.
M r Coateg admitted there are a hoist of difficulties in the way of obtaining definite results from the conference, but .said he wa s confident a highway to (a, solution*oould be blazed by giving practical effect to belief in the dairy cow and itis production as the guiding measures. Mr Coates announced to-night that it was hoped, a s the result of the operation of a scheme now being evolved between himself and departmental officers, to place, ten thousand ttteh oil the land ae an unemployment relief measure.
The immediate objective, he said, •would be the absorption of ; five thousand;,
Two committees were set up to-day. iOne was to devise a plan regarding the us© of small dairy farms, and,., the other to 'prepare legislation giving effect to the proposals.
