BOYS’ WEEK INAUGURATED

With a parade of 1500 boys to, the Basin Reserve, Wellington, on Saturday, inaugurated Boys’ Week. T‘h e Governor-Genera-', Lord Bledisioe, was present. There was a large attendance of the public, and a demonstration march past wn.g- given by scouts and cube. ,

The object of the undertaking is to bring together the various organisations interested in youth welfare, and to awaken public .interest to the need for helping the younger generation (during the ■ present times. The.se objects were explained by Mr L. T. Watkins, chairman of the Committee oi Associated Boy6’ Organisations.

Lord 'Bledisioe ispok e of the country’s asset in its youth. He emphasised toe value of knowledge and training in doing the tasks of life. “There is a great danger to the State / in idleness and a greater danger to the individual,” s-aid Ids Excellency. “Prisons and asylums are full of people "ho misspent their leisure when young. The greatest happiness is ’ to be derived from work. If you are careful not to Ibe idle, and always look to Cod for guidance, you ,will grow into useful citizens of the Empire.”
