The meat freezing season in Canterbury will open next week, the companies concerned having mad e arrangements to operate even if the trouble ,13 not settled with the Freezing Workers’ Federation.
An organisation j s . being completed for carrying on the works with! l! free labour, and also, if necessary, for ’ the loading of s'lips. T'he details of the organisation were discussed to-day at a meeting at which the Canterbury A. and P. Association, Farmers’ Union and Sheep Owners’ Federation were represented. The meeting wa s not open to the press, and secrecy is 'being maintained as to what occurred at it, but it is stated that an organisation for the (supply of free labour is complete And that farmers and farmers’ sons wijl volunteer in sufficient numbers to emi'ure th'e running of the works.
The season is opening a few weeks •earlier than usual, and it is not expected that the fu'U output will be reach'd for several weeks.
